Sycamore is a common species of maple found throughout the Scotland, it was introduced from Europe sometime during the Middle Ages and rapidly took hold. The hard, creamy wood is used in furniture and for making kitchenware.
Many of us who grew up knowing this tree will have happy childhood memories of throwing the seeds of the sycamore into the air and watching our “helicopters” spiral to the ground. Indeed, in what must surely be a nod to this time-honoured game, the first British-designed helicopter to fly was named the Bristol Sycamore.
It is a tough, hardy tree, its range stretching from Turkey to Iceland, tolerant to many environmental hardships.
The piece is shipped in a small matt black presentation box inside a small colourful drawstring bag, ideal for gifting. A small leaflet explaining a little of the history, uses and folklore surrounding the wood is included.
Due to the natural variability of wood and because everything we do is completely handmade, all of The Conker Tree's products are completely unique, one-of-a-kind items.
