Hand carved in central Scotland from reclaimed shesham wood, these strikingly patterned pendants present a natural looking piece of jewellery. They would make a fantastic gift for nature lovers, those with a special connection to trees or just to add a little something unusual to your jewellery collection.
No machines were used in the manufacture of the pendant and it is finished resin to give a tough, durable, water resistant coating with a high gloss. Due to the natural variability of wood and because each pendant is hand made, every item The Conker Tree produces is completely unique.
Please note the price is for the pendant only. For an additional £4.00 you can add a sterling silver diamond cut curb chain or a leather cord with a handmade clasp by clicking here: https://www.commonmarket.scot/en/listings/432479-upgrade-add-a-silver-chain-or-a-leather-cord
Each piece comes in a matt black presentation box with a leaflet explaining a little of the history, uses and folklore surrounding the wood.
As the name suggests, this beautifully grained wood is native to the Indian Subcontinent, although it has been artificially introduced to many other areas of the world.
Sheesham’s main modern use in furniture making is unsurprising, given the gorgeous variegated stripes it displays, although it is also used as a fuel.
Sticks of Sheesham are also chewed in India in order to clean the teeth, a traditional practice that is still widespread.
